The Miracle Gradually Unfolds

Our Lord wanted the power of his miracles to be seen gradually, little by little. And if the servants had related what had happened they would have been thought mad in testifying to something that was done by someone who at the time appeared to be a mere man. Although they knew for certain what they had experienced (for it was unlikely that they would disbelieve their own hands), yet that would have been insufficient to convince anyone else. And so Jesus did not reveal it to everyone but to the one who was best able to understand what had happened, reserving a dearer understanding of what had happened for a later time.. " And [he had made] not just any wine, bur the best wine.

John Chrysostom

The King Pours His Wine for Guests

Let Cana thank You for gladdening her banquet!
The bridegroom's crown exalted You for exalting it,
And the bride's crown belonged to Your victory.

In her mirror allegories are expounded and traced,

For You portrayed Your church in the bride,
And in her guests, Yours are traced,
And in her magnificence she portrays Your advent.

Let the feast thank Him, for in multiplying His wine
Six miracles were beheld there:
The six wines jugs set aside for water
Into which they invited the King to pour His wine.

God living in man

Grace is an awesome energy that lifts the soul above the harassment of the flesh, the temptations of the world and the insinuations of the enemy. Very simply, it is God living in man

The Lord Is Born

Today the Lord is born, the life and salvation of mankind; today a reconciliation is made of Divinity to humanity, and of humanity to Divinity; today all creation has leaped for joy; those above sent toward those below; and those below towards those above; today occurred the death of darkness and the life of humanity; today a way was made toward God for man and a way for God into the soul.

Saint Macarius the Great

Christ was born

O, man, for your sake Christ was born, and the Son of God came that He might make you to live. He became a babe, He became a child, and He became a man, being [at the same time] God in His Nature, and the Son of God.

Year Coming

When you see the year coming to completion, give thanks to the Lord that he brought you to this period of years. Put your heart at rest, count up the time of your life, say to yourself: The days move quickly and pass by, the years come to an end, we have already traversed much of the road— but what noble thing have we done? We will not go from here empty and lacking all righteousness. The judgment is at the doors. Life presses on and on toward our old age.

St. John Chrysostom
